Our Weed Control Program

Weeds are a common problem in Michigan. They crowd out healthy grass and make lawns look messy. Some of the most common weeds we deal with include:

Dandelions – Their yellow flowers spread quickly, and their deep roots make them hard to remove.

Crabgrass – This tough weed grows fast and can take over weak spots in your lawn.

Clover – Some homeowners like clover, but it can spread aggressively and compete with grass.

Other invasive weeds – Many types of weeds grow in Michigan, and each requires a different approach.

Our weed control program targets these and other weeds using treatments designed for Michigan lawns. We apply weed control products at key times throughout the year to stop weeds before they spread. The goal is to prevent weeds from taking over while keeping your grass healthy and strong.


Our Lawn Fertilization Program

Fertilization is just as important as weed control. Without the right nutrients, grass grows weak, making it easier for weeds to take over. Our fertilization program gives your lawn what it needs to stay green and thick all season long. We use a scheduled approach, applying fertilizer at key points during the year.

Our fertilizers contain the right balance of nutrients to feed your lawn properly. Each application is designed to work with Michigan’s soil and climate.

Weed Control & Fertilization
Treatment Schedule

Every treatment round has a purpose, and when you give our Turf Program a full season to work, you will see the custom results we both expect! A successful lawn program takes consistency to achieve results. Signing up for more treatments will result in more consistent control of turf conditions. 

  • Treatment 1: Early Spring Fertilization PLUS Crabgrass Control

    A balanced slow-release granular fertilizer will be applied to promote a healthy spring green-up and a vigorous lawn ready to recover from its winter dormancy. Also included in this treatment is a pre-emergent Crabgrass Control that prevents 80-85% of Crabgrass seeds from germinating in late spring. A Cold Weather Weed Control may also be applied if weather conditions allow. This product will get a jump-start on weed control and prepare it for the blanket weed control application that will be applied during the second treatment of the season. 

  • Treatment 2: Spring Weed & Feed

    A blanket application of liquid weed control will be applied to your entire property to control for early season germinating weeds. This treatment is very important because it is one of only two treatments per season that we are allowed by law to apply a blanket application of weed control to your entire property.  A thick dense lawn is the best defense against weeds, and our late Spring Fertilizer will help continue to thicken your lawn in preparation for Summer.


  • Treatment 3: Summer Weed & Feed

    A professional blend of balanced fertilizers will be applied, including Potassium for continued strong root development and plant health before summer. New broadleaf weeds germinate every 3—5 weeks throughout the Summer, so there will be a continued focus on treating any new weeds that have germinated since previous treatments.


  • Treatment 4: Weed & Feed PLUS Insect Check

    This treatment is included in ONLY our 6 and 7 treatment plans. As the Summer heats up, there will be an increase in turf damaging insects that require a professional eye, and some TLC (Tender Lawn Care). Our Technicians will be on the lookout for sod webworms and chinch bugs that pose a threat to the overall health of your lawn. If any turf damaging insects are found, Insect control will be applied at no additional cost for those signed up for all 7 treatments. A summer formulated granular fertilizer will also be applied, with a continued focus on treating any newly germinated broadleaf weeds that may have popped up since previous treatments.


  • Treatment 5: Early Fall Weed & Feed

    A late summer blend of balanced granular fertilization will be applied to continue promoting your lawn’s health as the summer stress subsides. A blanket application of Broadleaf Weed Control will be applied to your entire property. This is the second and final time per season that we are allowed by law to apply weed control to your entire property. This blanket application will control stubborn weeds and get a jump start on fall germinating weeds, which will directly affect the amount of weeds you see in the Spring.

  • Treatment 6: Late Fall Weed & Feed

    As cool fall temperatures return, prime growing conditions will arrive! The ultimate factor in turf health is a deep, healthy root system. Fall  is when 80% of root growth takes place. Our specially blended Fall Fertilizer will enhance this root growth by feeding the root system of your turf, resulting in a healthier, greener lawn all season long. We will continue to target any broadleaf weeds that may have germinated since the last treatment, which will directly affect the amount of weeds you see in the Spring. This is the perfect time of year to schedule our Fall Core Aeration which will take fall root growth to the next level!


  • Treatment 7: Pre-Winter Turf Builder

    The final treatment of the season is one of the most important treatments! As your lawn prepares for winter dormancy by sending nutrients to its root system, our high Potassium Pre-Winter Blend of balanced fertilizers will enhance your lawn’s health and provide the needed nutrients to prepare for a harsh Michigan winter.

AUTO-RENEWAL 

All services auto-renew each season to ensure the effectiveness of our seasonal turf treatments, and to maintain the integrity of a timely treatment schedule. Services can be altered or cancelled at any time, but you will be responsible for payment of any services performed prior to notifying us.

SAVINGS OFFERS 

All special offers and discounts applied to an account are valid for the current season only and will not carry over into the next year of services. If services are canceled before all treatments have been completed, any applied savings offers will be removed and added to your ending balance. 

LATE CHARGES 

A late charge of $4.90 will be applied to any account with a balance that is 30 days past due. Any balances due after 90 days risk being forwarded to a national collection agency or small claims court for further action. View full terms of service for more details.
