| Q.
How long do weeds take to die-off?
A.
Our weed control products are the most effective available,
and broadleaf weeds will begin to curl and wither within
3-7 days of the initial treatment. They will gradually wither,
degrade and disappear with continued lawn mowing.
Q.
Why does my lawn always have dandelions reappear each spring
and sometimes during the season?
A.
Broadleaf weeds can only be controlled when they are ACTIVELY
growing (our weed control products are essentially a growth
hormone that causes them to go through their entire life
cycle in a matter of days instead of months). Dandelions
are best controlled during late spring to early summer,
once they have sprouted. After our initial Broadleaf Weed
Control Treatment, our Professional Technicians will continually
monitor and treat any broadleaf weeds that re-emerge throughout
the season; That is why it is important not skip a single
treatment during the season: To prevent the re-occurrence
of any turf pests!
Q.
What if it rains on a Broadleaf Weed Control Treatment?
A.
The length of time required for our professional weed control
product to dry on the broadleaf weed varies with the weather,
but it has usually dried after only an hour. Once it has
dried it will not rub or wash off. Light rain or mist will
actually improve the results of our Broadleaf Weed Control
Treatments, because the pores on the leaf of the broadleaf
weeds will open to absorb the moisture, thus our professional
weed control product will also be quickly absorbed into
the plant for EXCELLENT results! HOWEVER, With Custom LawnCare,
should a heavy downpour arise prior to the desired drying
period, your Turf Technician will automatically schedule
a Rain Day Follow-Up to inspect your lawn after 10 days
from the initial treatment, and re-apply the Broadleaf Weed
Control if the expected weed control results are not occurring:
AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE TO YOU!
NO OTHER PROFESSIONAL LAWN SERVICE OFFERS YOU THIS GUARANTEE!
Q.
How long after a treatment can I begin watering my lawn
again?
A.
The granular fertilization that we provide will always benefit
from any moisture, whether a brief shower or regular irrigation,
but watering is not required to achieve the desired results.
As stated above, a light mist or shower will NOT have adverse
effects on our Broadleaf Weed Control treatments, but you
should wait 24 hours before resuming your regular turf watering
schedule.
Q. When is the best
time of the day to water my lawn?
A. The
best time of the day to water your lawn is always in the
mornings before mid-day. The reasoning for this time schedule
is your lawn will lose moisture each day due to evaporization,
so provide your lawn with the water it will lose each day,
prior to losing that moisture, and your lawn will always
maintain a positive/equal moisture content.
Q. We haven’t been satisfied
with the service of the nation wide companies, why will
we be happy with Custom LawnCare.
A. Although
Custom LawnCare provides services in the communities of
Flint, Saginaw, North Oakland County, Lansing, and Port
Huron, we are locally owned & operated! Our reputation
is of the utmost importance, as I live in the community
as well! (My name is Rodney Campbell, and have owned &
operated Custom LawnCare since 1988!) Further, ALL of our
Professional Technicians are certified by the Michigan Department
of Agriculture, and on average have over 7.4 years of experience
providing our professional services. In addition, our Technical
Telephone Support has over 40 years of cumulative experience.
We have the experienced staff to address your concerns,
whether it is on your lawn or on the telephone!
Q. Every spring I have crabgrass,
WHY?
A. If you
are seeing crabgrass in the spring… it is NOT crabgrass.
EVERYBODY confuses Tall Fescue, a grass plant that is visible
in the yard all season long, with Crabgrass, which is a
plant that will be only seen from late June until the first
heavy frost in the fall, when it turns purple and dies off.
Do this comparison to determine if you have crabgrass: If
it is March through mid June it is Tall Fescue. If the plant
has a wide grass blade, typically grows in clumps, and grows
taller than the rest of the lawn, and can be seen all times
of the year, it is Tall Fescue. However, if it is mid June
through September, and the plant you are noticing started
off as pale green, in LOW growing clumps, and is predominant
along any paved surfaces, it is likely crabgrass and you
should contact our Technical Telephone Support for scheduling
of a Spring Crabgrass Control Treatment @ 800-570-3313.
Q. How long should we wait
before mowing the lawn after a treatment?
A. Our
professional blend fertilizer treatments can be mowed immediately
after treatment, even if you bag the clippings( which we
don’t recommend, see below). Mowing immediately after a
fertilizer treatment will not re-distribute the granules
nor will a bag lawn mower be able to consume the granules.
Our professional Broadleaf Weed Control treatments should
be allowed to dry on the leaf surface for a minimum of 24
hours before mowing, to allow the product to be absorbed
by the weed plant.
Q. Is it ok to bag my lawn
clippings during mowing?
A. We have
ALWAYS recommended leaving the clippings on the lawn after
mowing. Studies have proven that leaving clippings on the
lawn for a whole season is the equivalent of ONE fertilizer
treatment each season! Further, grass clippings DO NOT contribute
to your lawn’s thatch layer. Grass clippings are 90% moisture
and 100% nutrient!
Q. What height should I mow
my lawn at?
A. We always
recommend that you mow your lawn at the highest height on
your lawn mower. The reason is that should we go through
a temporary dry spell, with the additional turf leaf, your
lawn will remain green and more resistant to turf pests
such as turf insects and disease. There is one exception
to this recommendation: The last mowing of the year you
should mow your lawn as short as possible without scalping.
This will help prevent a winter disease called snow mold,
and your lawn will green up much quicker come spring!
Q. I have ground moles, so
I need a grub control treatment…
A. No.
Moles are not attracted to a particular property due to
grubs. Although moles do eat grubs, their main diet is earth
worms. Applying a grub control just because you have moles
is the wrong approach. Moles will still be present in your
lawn because they will continue to eat the earth worms!
Check out our Mole Control Service for effective and real
mole extermination.
Q. How do I get rid of grubs
then?
A. Lets
explain the life cycle of grubs, so you will have a complete
understanding of effective grub control. Grubs hatch into
either June Beetles or Japanese Beetles each summer. Adult
June Beetles and Japanese Beetles then deposit their eggs
in your lawn. In August of each year, those eggs develop
into turf damaging grubs that feed on your lawn in the fall
of each year. When freezing temperatures come, the grubs
produce an enzyme that prevents them from freezing during
the winter months. Come spring, the turf damaging grubs
re-emerge to cause more damage to your lawn, until June,
when they morph into adults again, and the whole process
starts over. GRUBPro, an optional add-on service offered
exclusively by Custom LawnCare, is applied during July each
year. Our unique process is applied to prevent the laid
eggs from ever hatching, thus offering ONE FULL YEAR of
turf damaging grub control, GUARANTEED. So, why is GRUBPro
a continuing service from season to season? Unfortunately,
flying June Beetles and Japanese Beetles don’t just stay
in the yard they were hatched, and your lawn can be invaded
from the beetles flying all around your neighborhood.
Q. If I have grubs in the
spring or fall, they can’t be treated?
A. Active
grubs can be treated, with a different product than is used
for our GRUBPro treatment, while grubs are actively causing
damage, as an optional add-on service. However, treating
grubs after they have done the damage to your lawn, you
now have to perform costly lawn renovations. One simple,
cost effective treatment provided in July each year (GRUBPro)
will prevent you from incurring potentially thousands of
dollars in lawn renovations!
Q. When should I seed/over-seed
my lawn?
A. To begin
with, the absolute BEST time of the year to seed/over-seed
any lawn is between the dates of August 15 through Septermber
15 each year. Your new grass seed will receive good mild
temperatures and adequate moisture to provide the best germination
rate between these dates. However, for the best results,
either a core-aeration or top dressing should be performed
prior to application of seeding, to provide adequate germination
conditions for your grass seed. NOTE: Absolutely avoid applying
any new seed to your lawn within 6 weeks of a Spring Crabgrass
Control Treatment. The crabgrass control product will have
the same effect on your new grass seed as it does on crabgrass
seedlings, it will prevent the seedlings from germinating!
Q. Why do your Turf Technicians
always recommend sharpening my mower blade?
A. It is
always recommended that you sharpen your mower blade, because
this one simple component to a healthy turf can have dramatic
aesthetic effects upon your lawn. A lawn mowed with a dull
blade will cause a chalky appearance immediately after mowing,
and a hazy, brown appearance between mowings (due to the
shredded leaf tip). Further, a shredded leaf tip causes
weak turf plant, susceptible to insect & disease infestations.
NOTE: It is widely assumed that a new mower comes with a
sharp blade, or a new blade is sharp. Have that new blade
sharpened before the first mowing for best results!
Q. Why is Custom
LawnCare a continuing service from season to season?
A. Custom
LawnCare Professional Turf Fertilization & Weed Control
Programs, as well as GRUBPro, PESTPro, and MosQUITo Control,
are continuing services for the simple fact that in order
to achieve the desired results for an entire season, these
programs must begin on a timely basis each year. Crabgrass
Control must be applied each spring before it germinates;
PESTPro perimeter barriers must be put in place before crawling
insects make their way into your home; GRUBPro must be in
place prior to egg hatch for guaranteed results; And MosQUITo
Control is most effective season long when the first hatch
of mosquitos’ are subject to our control methods. However,
any time that you wish to alter your turf care schedule,
or any additional service such as GRUBPro, PESTPro, or MosQUITo
Control, simply contact our Technical Telephone Support
@ 800-570-3313 for prompt support, we are open year round
to assist you.
Q. How safe are your applications
for my pets and kids?
A. Our
professional grade, granular fertilizers are not considered
hazardous materials. There is no record of human or pet
injury resulting from one of our fertilizer applications.
All of our products are registered for use on home lawns
and contain many of the same active ingredients as the products
you can buy at your local nursery and garden store. Our
treatments do not represent any significant threat to your
family or pets when utilized by our Professional Technicians
in accordance with the labeled directions.
